Latest ResearchIn a study published by Arthritis Research and Therapy (2025), researchers explored how the expression of certain genes related to the immune system, specifically Toll-like receptors, varies in the blood of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). They focused on patients with lupus nephritis (LN), which affects the kidneys, and those with neuropsychiatric SLE, impacting the central nervous system. The study aimed to identify unique gene expression patterns that could help differentiate between these SLE manifestations and correlate with disease activity. The findings revealed distinct gene expression signatures in the blood of SLE patients with LN and neuropsychiatric involvement compared to those without these complications. This suggests that blood gene expression profiling of Toll-like receptors could potentially serve as a biomarker to distinguish between different organ involvements in SLE, aiding in more tailored and effective treatments for patients based on their specific disease characteristics. | ||||||||||||||||||||

Very true. If we have an invisible illness, such as lupus, people see us shopping, or socialising and assume that we're 'better' now. If we didn't push through the pain and do the things such as these that others take for granted we'd have no life at all ☹️
